Yonkers is the fourth most populous city in the state of New York behind New York City and others. Yonkers is the most populous city in Westchester County, with a population of over 195,000. Bakelite, the first completely synthetic plastic, was invented in Yonkers circa 1906 by Leo Baekeland, and manufactured there until the late 1920s.
